Testing Methods- Chemical Resistance

 

The resistance to certain chemicals could be a important factor depending

on the application. Automotive applications, especially, can have requirements regarding chemical resistance. The tests can be carried out in different ways, often according to standards issued by the manufacturer itself. Some tests are made by simply immersing the tape in the actual chemical substance for a specified time, and afterwards inspecting the sample for any changes in appearance such as discoloration, swelling & flagging. It’s a simple test to do, but it is harsh due to the fact that the specified chemicals often are or containing solvents, and therefore attacks most tapes.
